There is only one native bamboo in the United States: Arundinaria gigantea,
switch cane.
The other bamboos, sold in nurseries, are non-native plants,
some of which have escaped into the wild, and are having to be managed in state parks
and elsewhere.

Bamboo stems grew very quickly in this backyard. Many stems grew as much as 16 inches per day during one week in March 2005.
