Club-rush is a sedge. From rhizomes; stems circular, to 4-ft. tall, to 1/4 in. wide; leaf blades none, just sheaths wrapping the stem at the base; sheath top triangular with long tip, lower sheath loose; inflorescence a single cylindrical club-like spikelet, about as wide as the stem, tan, to 2 in. long, many white flowers, scales broad, scale tops rounded; nutlets rounded, pointed, with surrounding bristles.
